By Kylee, Indiana, USA
My name is Kylee Roberts. I’m a 23-year-old that lives in a small town east of Indianapolis. At 17 years, I was diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia. This story came as a huge surprise to my family, because all of my doctors said I was walking bow-legged, “for attention”.
So, when the pain in my hips became completely unbearable I was sent to my first Orthopaedic surgeon. He mainly dealt with paediatric patients and since I was fully grown he sent me to one of his associates. This associate took one look at my legs and stated, ” I have no idea how to fix you”. This was completely heart-breaking.
Later that year, this same group of physicians got a hip specialist and that’s where my major journey starts. This surgeon was completely amazed by the fact that I could even walk. At this point I was falling constantly and could not walk for more than five minutes at a time. The doctor was so enthralled with my legs and hips that he took pictures of how far out my feet were.
You will read more of my story in later blogs but I wanted to give you a sneak peek first…
Thank you for reading 🙂
