Hi , I'm 37 and found out after a couple years I have hip dysplasia. I'm now waiting an appointment in North umbria . Have been told I'm looking at a year wait. Just wondered if anyone has had it done or waiting like me.

Hi Mh79

Will put a post out to see if there is anyone close to you in your area, in a similar situation. Are you waiting for a consultation/face-to-face appointment? Or actually waiting on a surgery date? What surgery are you waiting for? In my own experience, when I was waiting for surgery, I spent a lot of time on the phone querying whether there were cancellations, speaking to the girls in the waiting lists department and basically telling them I was at my wits end... I think they took pity on me on more than one occasion.  It really won't hurt to call. I'll put that post out now, let's see if we can find you some answers and support 🙂

Hi. I'm a Northumbria patient and have had a PAO. I waited 7 months from referral to surgery so hopefully the year wait isn't accurate, although I know Mr Malviya is very busy. Feel free to ask me anything. Also look up Periacetabular Osteotomy (PAO) UK-Based Facebook group...there are loads of Mr Malviya patients on there.

Hi Mh79

I just wanted to follow up with some of the responses from the Facebook page for you.  As geordiehippo says, there are plenty of folk in your area, so depending on your consultant and the surgery you're waiting for, there are those who can help 🙂 There was also an enquiry as to which hospital you're going to, Northumberland trust covers a few hospitals i.e. Hexham, wansbeck, northtyneside?

These are some of the posts (you can see the original posts on the Facebook page);

Saw (my consultant) December 30th and within 2 weeks had been scanned, I had a steroid injection last week and I'll be followed up with in about 5 weeks....  I'm here to answer any questions I can. I'm a massive nerd so I know more than I should xxx

I live in Tyne & Wear and am under Mr Malviya in Northumberland. I have bilateral hip dysplasia & had my first PAO back in Oct last year. It took 2 years to get diagnosed - first they lost my referral & then my dysplasia was missed until I was being listed for a labral tear repair! Waiting times are quite long as Mr M's clinics are hugely over-subscribed. The surgery waiting list is anywhere from 3-6m. Any more questions, just shout. x

After having steroid injections which didn't help i went back to my consultant who then decided to put me on the list for surgery back in august. I then got a surgery date for 6 weeks later! This isn't usually the case though i think the waiting list is usually about 6 months unless your lucky enough to be able to take a cancellation if there is one. Xx

I hope this helps! There are some fab groups on Facebook if you're signed up. If you look at the Resources page, it gives you direct links to these pages.

All the best!

   hi, thank you for your reply. sorry late lost my log in . Yes I'm with Dr M too. I've had my pre op, just waiting on to hear when I need to go in. Not heard a thing. He did say around Sept , So not much longer I hope. Had to have 2 days of this week. legs have been giving me so much pain, and giving way. Not ever felt in this much pain. I'm having the the preserving op too, as I've got no arthritus yet. some big cyst, so I'm a candidate for it. I've got quite bad dysplasia which not much coverage. He was quite surprised that I hadn't had it from birth.  How's does everyone deal with pain ? I had the steroids last May  2016 but wore off this march . they worked well. Been waiting on having more but heard nothing.  Does anyone where particular shoes ? Thank you to everyone x
